The Road in Them

The Road in Them

Stories of riders, miles, and memory

About

A PRESENCE

Beyond the machine.

This project is not looking for a pose, but for a presence. A rider on their bike, standing in stillness, resting in their gear, or simply existing within the world that riding has shaped around them. Worn leather, faded textiles, scuffed boots, oil marks, repairs, and weathered details all become part of the story.

They are not flaws to be hidden, but traces of lived experience, marks left by journeys taken, roads survived, and years folded into the act of riding.

A HUMAN

Behind the helmet.

This project is about the human being behind the helmet. It asks what first drew someone to the road, what keeps them returning, and how riding becomes woven into a person’s emotional landscape and life story.

For some, riding is escape. For others, it is belonging, identity, therapy, rebellion, discipline, or remembrance. This work tries to make space for those meanings to surface honestly.

A ROAD

Often remained unseen.

So much of motorcycle imagery is built around the polished surface: the clean machine, the strong pose, the finished image. But behind that are other roads that rarely get shown.

Roads shaped by fear, self-doubt, disability, accidents, late beginnings, learning, persistence, and the quiet refusal to give up.

This project turns towards those less visible truths and towards the lives that carry them.

A LESSON

In Image and Story.

Through intimate portraits and written storytelling, you can also see through my eyes and my mind. Each journey, each encounter, carries not only the rider’s story, but also what stayed with me, how I interpreted the feelings and emotions I heard, and what those stories taught me.

This is not only about showing the rider, but also about holding the exchange between us, what was shared, what was felt, and what each road revealed beyond the visible surface.

I am drawn to the honesty of images shaped in the moment, where light, texture, atmosphere, and timing...

I do not post-edit any of the photographs on this project. I have always felt that too much in life is edited, shaped, softened, and erased, as if perfection were the thing we should all be reaching for. But my belief goes elsewhere. To me, perfection is only an idea, and cracks, blemishes, blur, and scars can all carry a beauty of their own, one that feels more human, more honest, and more alive.I want my images to hold that. To be shaped by the light, the feeling, the tools, and the skill I had in the moment they were made. Not better or worse than polished images, simply mine, and true to what I was able to give there and then. What appears here is the result as it came straight from the camera.

… are allowed to remain as they were found.
